The endurance of Indian democracy over the past seven decades has owed much to three elements the Parliament, the judiciary, and that curious but potent force called public opinion. The first two possess structure and authority; the third, though amorphous, exerts its influence through collective conscience and dissent. History has shown that when formal politics fail, alternative movements often arise through the mobilisation of collective reason and moral courage. To be effective, resistance must seek to unify stakeholders across divisions, not through the coercion of conformity but through a shared demand for justice, through the cumulative force of public will rationally organised. Only then would genuine transformation become possible.
